ICAR assists farmers of Kiphire

KVK Kiphire, ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre and Atsitsa Large Area Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society Ltd, Kiphire organised one day interactive meeting with ICAR Nagaland joint director Dr. Homeswar Kalita, and Dr. Mahak, Scientist, Animal Science with farmers, officers, NGO’s and FPO of Kiphire on August 25.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Dr. Kalita appreciated the collaborative works undertaken by KVK which has been benefitting large section of the farming community. He informed the gathering that his visit to Kiphire was to understand the ground reality of the district in agriculture and allied sectors and to plan the way forward.

He expressed satisfaction with the works carried out by KVK and different allied departments in a collaborative mode involving different stake holders. He also informed on various activities undertaken by ICAR Nagaland and assured to extend possible help in days to come. Speaking on behalf of the district administration, Longdiba Sangtam, SDO(C) and Nodal Officer, aspiration district program, stated that the state government was doing its best to uplift the livelihood of the farming community through the aspirational district program. He therefore encouraged the beneficiaries to make best use of the facilities and equipment provided.

He also lauded the effort of the KVK in bringing in farmers friendly technologies based on their specific problems and assured to extend help to the department in near future as well.

Speaking on behalf of the society, Seroba Sangtam highlighted the genesis of the society and the various activities being undertaken by the society. He informed that the society was formed with the initiative of Dr. N. Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Kiphire and extended gratitude to all the partner departments for their support.

Short speeches were also delivered by Nzanthung Yanthan, DFO (Fishery), Janai Zeme, team leader, NFMP(Forest), Jubika, CEO, Orchid FPO and Atsali, secretary Likhaki Farming Society, Yingphire.After the formal interaction program, Dr. Kalita, handed over diesel operated “maize dehusker-cum-sheller and Pulvirizer” to Atsitsa Society funded by Aspiration District Program where a live demonstration was also conducted.

During the demonstration program, Dr. Ezung informed that the machine has the ability to remove the husk and shell the maize which has a capacity of 1500-2000 kgs/hour.

Dr. Kalita also interacted with DC Kiphire John Tsulise Sangtam, staff of JSS, Kiphire, KVK land donor and staff and also visited Feed Mill established by KVK, Model Integrated Farming System-cum-pig breeding unit developed by KVK funded under CM corpus fund and KVK farm.
